Except I’m not giving away my blog! I’m giving away lots of fun stuff though!

Today is the SewMamaSew blog giveaway day and since I love getting free crap, I thought I’d offer lots of free crap to you instead (cause I have never won anything, seriously, except the husband-lottery. Maybe the baby lottery. Maybe).

There are three prizes in my giveaway today and you can enter for just one or all three! How sweet am I? Though if you by some random chance win all three, you will have to endure the wrath of all the other participants!

The first prize is my “handmade” gift that is not about cloth menstrual pads (haha!). I wanted to give something away that would have larger appeal, so I’m offering this hand-stitched cathedral window pincushion I made. I have been really drawn to these batik colors lately, so I went with this color scheme for the whole theme of my give-away. This prize also includes some yoyo hairpins with tiny silver moons and two very random fabric sheep 1.5″ pinback buttons (what can I say, I’m getting little random craft things ready for the farmers markets!).

This is giveaway #1!

SMS giveaway

My second gift is a set of cloth pantyliners. If you’re interested in making the switch from disposable menstrual products to cloth, check out the links in my sidebar for more information! This is a set of four — two 6″ liners and two 8″ liners. One set is organic cotton and raw silk and the other is organic cotton and organic bamboo velour! I hand-dyed the cotton myself. Raw silk is a fiber that helps reduce irritation and it just feels really cool on hot summer days. Bamboo velour is almost buttery soft. These are perfect for light days, spotting, discharge (OMG I just said discharge on the internet!) and are great if you already use a cup or sponge and want some additional leak protection. I’m happy to answer any/all questions about my products and believe me, I’ve been at this for years  — nothing is TMI!

This is giveaway #2!

Finally I have a kit of vintage notions and sewing stuff. This has a cute pajama pattern, a bit of vintage fabric, some lace and trim and a few zips. Enough to keep you busy for awhile. I used to have these kits in my etsy shop, but have discontinued them (look for them in a new incarnation soon though)! You’ll love this. Seriously, it’s so much fun!

This is giveaway #3!

SMS giveaway

To enter, pick which one(s) you want to win and answer the corresponding questions in my comments:

For #1: I really got lost in these batik colors! And I love dying fabric too. What is your dream fabric color combo? If you could find hand-dyed or hand-batiked fabric in any color combo, what would it be?

For #2: Help me improve my ever-evolving cloth-pad FAQ. What info would be most helpful to you? To your friend you’re trying to convert?

For #3: What’s been your luckiest or favorite vintage find? I go thrifting once a week. How often do you go?

If you want more than one prize, you’ll have to answer more than one question! For extra points, post about my giveaway on your blog or in a message board and then comment the link! I’ll enter your name twice!

My giveaway will close on May 31st at Noon EST. The winner of each prize will be picked randomly. International folks are welcome to play along! Hopefully this all made sense! Let me know if you have any questions!
Good luck!

I looove them all!

#1: My dream fabric color combo is all different greens, possibly with a little yellow or blue for contrast. I love green (except kelly green, maybe) and there are so many different shades!

#2: I use cloth pads as backup to my Diva cup. They’re way comfy and I don’t have to buy boxes of pads for a day or two per month. And I don’t wash them specially; they always come clean fine.

#3: I seldom go thrifting but I did find a fabulous box of buttons at a garage sale–clearly from the 40s through the 70s!

All the items are fantastic!
And I made an LJ entry here!!: http://dalyax.livejournal.com/16810.html

For #1:
My favorite color combo would be blue and dark yellow. The sky and the sun baby! For batiks or hand-dyed, I love darker colors, I love brown and red!

For #2:
One of the difficult things I try to explain to friends who are hesitant about reusable cloth menstrual pads is…W.S.L.
*Washing* – even with the convenience of washing machines in this time! A lot of people assume that it takes a lot of care to have cloth pads.
*Staining* – I get this question a lot… I suggest friends to get pads in dark colors and to use baking soda or “Ecover”.
*Leaking* – The infamous question of them all LOL. I’m very confident with pads that have hemp or organic cotton or bamboo in them, never had problems!

For #3:
My favorite vintage find would be this “Scotch sewing tape” It holds items in place and the package claims it does not “gunk your needle”. The package is super hold and so 70s. I can’t find it in stores. And vintage buttons! I have a lot of them! I usually find my vintage goodies from the flea market! But I never go more than twice a year, it’s so hot!

#1: I’m a blues and greens kinda a gal normally. I’ve like to make Heather Ross’s summer blouse in batik.

#3: I NEVER thrift. I really don’t like shopping. However, I do like things. That’s why I shop online so much. I have some wonderful vintage buttons my grandmother gave me from her sewing basket (vintage thimbles too!).

My best vintage find came to me via my husband. He found two gallon ziploc bags of buttons at a yard sale for $5! It has been fun to assemble gift packs of buttons for people who sew.

My favorite vintage find was a package of 1950’s “Fancy Waxed Paper”, described as “5 gay and appetizing designs” of fruits, vegs, cowboys, etc. Darling!

Looks like fun stuff in the #3 giveaway.

Best regards,
Jane

#1. Deep reds. Not burgandy, though…true red, just really deep and vibrant. I love reds!

#3. My favorite vintage find is actually a great pair of 1960’s era eyeglasses! Complete with rhinestones! I got them for $1 at a garage sale and I just love them!!!

Oooh, I would love giveaways #1 and #3!

#1 – My ideal colour combo, right now, would be purple and light yellow – I’m trying to make a quilt for a friend, and those are her two fave colours!

#3 – I bought a gorgeous vintage ring at an estate sale (aution) years ago. It still makes me smile to see it in my jewelry box, and to wear it!

i love #1 and #2!

1) that is a tough one. right now i’m really digging yellow/black/white combos. as for batiks? oh boy. shades of pink/red/deep reds. love.

2) i think your FAQ is really good, actually. and they look really nice- better than a lot that i’ve seen!

I adore the items in your Giveaway Drawing #1. The colors you chose are fabulous. I would also enjoy greens in various shade with a bit of brown and
bittersweet. Please enter my name in your delightful drawing.
Many thanks, Cindi

Number 1 please. I love orange and pink in batiks and my dream batik would use those and a geometric print.

I’m really excited about your giveaways! they’re all so great. I’m not entering for #2 because I use a divacup, but I am taking part in #1 and #3!

1. i really love the colors in your pincushion. if I were to batik a color combo i’ll probably do a darkish blue and purple with little details of bright teal and limegreen. would all of that clash?

3. my favorite vintage thrift finds have been kitchen items. a small charming scale and some cute metal strainers. also my pink pyrex nesting bowls! I don’t go thrifting all too much but I wish I did.

thanks! I definitely plan to blog about your giveaway!

#1 My dream batik (and all batik is dreamy) would be chocolate brown base with aqua and celery green in a random blotchy/speckle style.

#2 I have never used reusable pantyliners, but would love to try them as a backup to tampons. My concern would be about them bunching up or twisting (like regular pads/thin pads with wings tend to do).

#3 Oh I am a thrift store junkie, so I have a shopping list full of amazing finds – from fabulous fabric scores to a funky lamp with colorful chandelier crystals, to a beautiful soft grey cropped swing jacket with big silk ribbon tie.

For #2: Well, I’ve never used cloth, but I’d love to try it out. I guess what I’m most concerned about is ease of washing, and how you take care of things if you are out of the house.

For #3: I don’t thrift very often any more, simply because my budget doesn’t allow it, but I found an awesome midcentury modern style love seat for $10 at a yard sale last year. It is so awesome.

#2 – I’ve been using cloth pads for years and I am always asked about how to clean them. Tea tree oil is the best!

I’d love to win either #2 or #3. I’ve been wanting to try reusable pads, but haven’t gotten around to it!

Ok, so answer to #1 is red and aqua is my favorite color combo right now. I can’t get enough of it.

#3 is I go thrifting usually once a week, sometimes even more. On monday holidays my thrift store has 50% off everything in the store, which is awesome. The best thing I’ve found so far are fabrics. I always check the fabrics first!

The best part of giveaway day has been discovering so many great blogs :)

#1: I love tone-on-tone colors. So a variety of reds.

#2: Price was why I switced to reusable menstrual products. Saving over $8 a month for years.

#3: Over 800 swarovski rhinestones for under $10

What a lovely giveaway-

1. probably blue and green. So calm and tranquil.

2. can you keep them from staining? and what are your on-the-go solutions?

3. my favorite finds have definitely been trims and buttons.

your product photography is lovely!

Thanks so much…

#3 My favorite finds are old old children’s sewing patterns and linens with embroidery and crochet trim.

1. I can never get enough of blues/turquoise/greens. That with a few small bursts of brown would be beautiful!

Is it weird that I really would love to win the cloth menstrual pads? LOL!

I’ve been interested in switching for awhile now, but haven’t taken the plunge. I think my biggest hurdle and more of what I would love to know about is care instructions. How to best wash them, dry them, etc.

Thanks for offering up such a great (and unique) giveaway prize!

#1: I’m really into purple and gray so that would be my color combo!

I will be answering #1. My favorite color combination in batik would be brown and pink to use as a focus fabric on a new quilt.

I love #1 I love purple and yellow together. For #2 I would include storing and washing suggestions.

1. I love dirt/dust/sludge colors (brown, gray, taupe, etc.) with bursts of either orange or green.
2. Can I wash them with regular laundry? Will stains actually come out?
3. My favorite thrift finds have been furniture. I got a cabinet for about $20.

For #1: I have been obsessing on turquoise and apple green lately. I didn’t realize it until I was trying (again) to sort the fabric stash and those drawers were overflowing!

For #2: The best selling point for me was shorter, lighter, less painful periods! I didn’t believe it but I’ve been using cloth for almost 4 years now (on and off between babies!) and it’s TRUE!

For #3: I only manage to go thrifting once a month or so, but I recently went to a charity sewing supplies sale (had a little fit when I saw the ad for it!) and they had BOXES of vintage patterns, most for 50 cents!!!

1-I am loving colors grouped by temperature these days, i.e. all cool colors or all warm colors.

2-cleaning? shifting in your undies?

3- I have terrible thrift luck. I never find anything good. :-(

1. My dream hand-dyed fabric would be in rich purples, purple/blues and purple/reds. Very rich & luxurious jewel tones.

Thanks for a generous give-away!

Well:
#1 – I love blues and greens, but mostly greens!
#2 – I would never in a million years have THOUGHT to use cloth pads! I would definitely want to try this out!
#3 – I have fun with buttons and old patterns and cool clothes I can ‘up-cycle’
Cheers,
Dionne

#1
brown and light blue has to be the best color combo.

#2 I think how to wash them? is the question that draws the most intrest but your FAQ covers that pretty well.

#1 Batik in red and yellow, or maybe aqua and red.

#2 Cloth pads…I used them before the menopause thing started (very early I might add) and for me it was being green and not being so wasteful, the same reason I used cloth diapers.

#3 Vintage find…hmmmm, that is hard….let me star with how often I go thrifting…well, I went today, and Saturday, and Friday, so I guess 3x a week in a good week, once in a busy week….best find: today I got a Liberty Fabric sewing pattern book, Saturday 2 china tea cups, but I guess my favorite(s) would be my hand painted Ransburg tins, trays, and miscellany. Hope I win!

#3 I go thrifting as often as I can, usually making up some errand that will ‘accidentally’ take me past the best thrift shops. The luckiest find so far: about 3 sweaters’ worth of pure wool, unused, 4ply crepe yarn. At a cheaper price than the acrylic sitting right next to it.

#2 – wow…good for you for using cloth. my question is – what is the best system for washing? Thanks for such a fun giveaway. I hope to visit your blog regularly (that is secretly my favorite part of this giant giveaway – is having more places to visit).

For #1: I really love red and aqua together. But I was picking up some yarn the other day and decided I also like aqua and taupe with a rich orange, too!

For #2: Do they really get all the way clean when you wash them? and: Do they ever start to smell?

For #3: I have so many favourites, It’s hard to choose! My latest favourite is a 1938 cookbook: The More for your Money Cookbook!

1. I love red and aqua. not sure how that would work in a batik, but that’s my fave combo.

2. I’ve been looking at these, but I honestly don’t know how I would deal with the laundry – my little ones would freak out if they saw a bloody rag! What’s the best system for washing?

3. I go thrifting as often as my wallet will let me! I have so many great finds, but my latest fave is a wooden sewing box – the kind with the fold out sides that I am keeping all my buttons and fasteners in.

#3 My favorite thrift find was also my biggest- a handmade double dresser made of pine with all of the beautiful grain patterns showing through the stain and it was worth waaayy more than they were asking for it and cost even less than a regular new dresser from any place!

For #3: What’s been your luckiest or favorite vintage find? I go thrifting once a week. How often do you go?

I go about once a week, too. My luckiest find was a vintage out of print book called Silver Snaffles, which I sold on eBay for almost $300. My fave find for myself is probably vintage sewing trims and patterns.

Thanks for the chance to enter!

#1. My favorite color combination would be all the blues and greens of the ocean.

#3.My favorite thrift store finds are anything with Scotties on them!

#3 my luckiest vingtage find? it would have to be 2 yards of vintage feedsack fabrics. so darling i about died. i go thrifting at least once a week too!

#1 My favorite color combination is blue and brown. I’d like hand-dyed fabric in blues and greens or bright pinks and greens.

I`d love to win all of them.

1: I`d love to see an orange and bright blue combo. They are my two favorite colors and you don`t always see them combined.

2:I think you could add how easy they are to use and wash. Making everything sound as simple as possible. I think that would be more appealing to a lot of people. Maybe a comparison chart of pros and cons to disposable pads as well.

3: I found an old vintage bathing suit pattern for my daughter. I`m in love with the style and I can`t wait to make one for her. I go to the thrift stores as often as I can. Usually every weekend if I can make it. I love finding fun stuff.

I would love to win #2~ I am a total granola girl who loves to be eco-friendly. I think people are mostly concerned about absorbability and washability, so one thing that would help is maybe some great washing tips to keep our reusable pantyliners looking fabulous, and extra absorbing pads inside. leafygreenes at gmail dot com

I would love to win #3. My favorite thrift store finds are always vintage sheets. It’s the best way to get awesome looking cheap fabric.

#1 – I think I would love an orange and linen color…wouldn’t that be fun? Thanks for the chance!

door #3 please! a few weeks ago I found a sweet, handmde quilt and a bag of old – excuse me – VINTAGE buttons and I just about died. I try to go at least once a week, but haveing 3 kids 4 and under in tow makes that a lofty goal.

1. My favorite color combos would be oranges and yellows. Maybe even throw in some reddish colors.
3. I got thrifting probably once a week too, as well as garage sales. My favorite find….hmmm….probably vintage sheets that I use for sewing projects like bags, floor cloths, notebook covers, etc.

#1 Pink and green–but a very grown-up pink and green, more subdued than garish.

#2 I have a lot of problems with leaking when I’m using tampons, and spotting on the pill, but I really hate the way disposable pads feel on my skin, so cloth seems like a good thing to try. (I’m also considering switching to a cup, but right now I’m kind of broke.) One thing that you don’t have in your FAQ that I’d like to see is information about how to deal with dirty pads away from home!

#3 It’s not the same kind of vintage find that others are discussing, but in the used bookstore in the Milwaukee airport craft section, amidst horrible “trendy” knitting books and grandma-from-the-80’s needlepoint magazines, I found an absolutely fabulous book from the 1970s about embroidery from around the world, full of historical descriptions, color photos, charts, and project suggestions. And stitch diagrams for all sorts of interesting and exotic stitches. I love it to death.

For #1: I tend toward purples and greens as a general, but other than that, my dream depends on the purpose of the fabric. If I could find some batik fabric with swatches of different color combinations, I would be in fabric heaven. Six inches of grey and orange, a burst of blue and yellow, sagey green with deep royal purple, red and orange… I don’t want a rainbow, I just want a big hodgepodge of loveliness.

For #2: Cleaning info is always helpful. Suggestions for those of us who flow heavily is also good. Tips for when you have to change the pad away from home.

I’ve been pondering switching to cloth pads for ages. This might be a nice way to test the waters.

#2

I have never used cloth pads, but have been interested in them. I guess I would want to know how to care for them. They do look comfy and I am very frugal.

Thanks for the giveaway.

I’m so down with cloth pads! I’ve just recently made the switch and could use some light ones; if I don’t win I think I might buy some from you (I made my other ones). In general I think you’ve covered the bases with the info. I think the #1 concern for women making the switch is leakage so you may want to reassure on that front.

Thanks for the chance!

My luckiest vintage find was for some kids patterns at a yard sale for 5 cents each. But living in the country I don’t get to look often.

#3. I love going thrifting – I have a Thrifty Thursday running post on my blog! My favorite find thus far this year is a queen size chenille bedspread in white (no stains) for $3! Going to turn it into pillows I think!

1) I’m a big fan of blue and green, but that’s one of the easiest colour combinations to find good examples of so I’m going to choose a different answer that I think is harder to find: brick red and chocolate brown.

2) For me: do raw silk or bamboo velour require any special treatment during washing? I’ve made a few pads for myself out of old clothes, but I’ve never used these fabrics. For a friend I was trying to convert: How long do they last? How should they be cared for? How can I make sure they don’t leak?

i posted about yr giveaway on my blog! please check it out at http://slopermoper.blogspot.com/2009/05/carnival.html

thanks!

#3 I found a fabulous vintage teak arm chair for $8 at a garage sale! I was shopping with a friend and never expected to find something so big, so I had to call my husband to come drive the big car to pick it up!

For question 1, I actually found a pair of pants at goodwill that I love the color combo in. Baby blue, Bright yellow, two shades of bright pink and white! So wonderful!

For question 3, I have had several thrifty finds I am quite proud of… I found a perfect condition dress for my little one… I found a pair of pants in my favorite colors… and not too long agao, I bought vintage linens to make myself some pretty things :)

1. True reds and brick/deep reds. These I’m having a harder time finding in batiks.

2. Well, the question that always comes up is washing instructions, different methods (with the laundry, separate, etc) and best soaps for them.

3. I go to the thrift shop close by about 2x a month, or as much as I’m able to get down there. My favorite finds are t-shirts with fun characters/prints to repurpose into shirts and items for my kids.

#2 The selling point for cloth diapers for me was all the benefits for the sensitive skin, and how much waist you are eliminating. I want to try cloth pads for the same reasons, and just need to start.

#3 I found this yellow raw silk dress made in India a while back, it was my perfect size and it has wonderful embroidery. I try to thrifting a couple times a month.

1: I love bright, saturated colors: fuchsia, royal blue, emerald, violet… So combos of those make me so, so happy. ;)

2: How hard is it to wash cloth pads and diapers? Am I going to have stains after the first use?

I like #3.. and my luckiest vintage find was a set of vintage Pyrex bowls and a McCalls sling bag pattern from the ’60s that I had been SEARCHING for all year.. both at one yard sale and all for under $4. I would go thrifting every day if I could.

#2 Well, I’ve actually never used a cloth pad, but I just read your FAQ for the express purpose of giving you advice and have been won over by the amount of detail and straight talk you give. I think it’s a superb FAQ. Also yours look so nice. I’d love to win them.

1) my favorite color combo is orange and turquiose
2) I’ve been planning on using mama cloth when my cycles return
3) I like googling vintage patterns or checking out the vintage patterns on Ebay or Etsy all the time, probably once a week

#2 Exactly what to do with the pads after use and before washing.

Yours are lovely!

I would love to win #1 or #3.
1) Right now I’m really loving light blue and orange, but what I really need to find are good purple and black batiks for a project for a friend.
3) I go thrifting pretty often. I just found a really good thrift store near me, but the best recent find was a cool vintage embroidery for free because the frame is a little broken.

#1: I desperately need a cute hand made pin cushion. I pretty much love all color combos., but lately am drawn to cream and chocolate. Soothing while sophisticated. I want to decorate my master bedroom in that.
#2: My question would be what is the initial investment, and how easy are they to wash and use? How do they stick to your underlings?
#3: Fave vintage find… I’m kinda obsessed with ‘antique’ Ball mason jars right now, to store my sewing odds and ends. I just came across 2 at the flea and 3 at the thrift store. I bought ‘em ALL, and for a steal!
Thanks for the offer!

1# I love red with red batics. So dark red pattern with lighter reds. This is my favorite color.

3# I go thrifting about once a week. I look for vintage fabric, buttons, supplies. I also like to make over clothing pieces. My best find was a huge bag of buttons that I got for $2.00. There were over 100 buttons. They were all gorgeous.

#2: The most helpful imformation for helping a friend convert would be stain removal! Once I got into cloth pads, I fell in love with the prints, and I am heartbroken when there’s a stain (I know it’s going to happen eventually, but damnit, I’ll try my best to prevent it!)

if i was a hand batiked fabric, i would be a vibrant blend of jalepeno green and kelly green…and i’d ADORE myself:)

great site and FUN giveaways!
ROCK ON! i’m stalking you on twitter now too…lol

THANKS!!!

1. Different shades of red would be great I think!
2. I just got a keeper and have used it for 2 cycles now. I have some cloth pads too but they don’t seem to stay put where I need them to–they slip down. Is there some way to fix that?
3. I haven’t had that much luck with vintage crafty stuff yet–but I found this gorgeous bowl, white with a blue border and yellow and orange flowers, which is probably my favorite thing in my whole kitchen! I love it so much.
Thanks for the great giveaways!

wow, ok.
1. I love all colors and made my husband a corduroy, patchwork, batiked fabric hoodie, could have killed me but it’s really nice. he loves it. I would really like to see some better and more blues, I dont see those often!
2. I am going to have to come back and read more on those pads, I’ve been wanting to look into them more and my friend and I were just discussing this the other day.
3. I go CRAZY INSANE Thrifting!! I don’t have a giveaway because I was “on a break”but I am doing a pattern swap if you want to come by :D I would love my patterns to be in a home that loves them.. I refuse to sell them on ebay or whatever first..

(#3) My luckiest vintage find was a wonderful pitcher. I love owls, and love fresh flowers. So I turned it into a flower vase.
Here is the photo:

I don’t have time to go thrifting, but I love etsy!

thanks

ashlomb at yahoo dot com

(#1)
Favorite color combo is Turquoise and Green.
Anything green with green. Darks and light greens would rock my world!

ashley

love them all (especially the batik colour combo!), but I’ll go with #2 and #3 –

#2 – I’ve seen these a lot over the last few weeks for whatever reason, and when i hear “pads” i think explicitly pads for, you know, periods. But that doesn’t really sound like what they are for – e.g. they sound more like daily pantyliners. Can you use them like “regular” pads or will they get totally stained and worthless?

#3 – Luckiest or favorite… hrm… i got a gorgeous vintage quilt top off of eBay (which i wouldn’t necessarily term a “find”; i think of “finds” more as in thrift stores and garage sales, but…) which was in really great condition from 1885, and was only $30. It snuck by some people!

#2 I’d like to try cloth liners, as a backup with my moon cup.
Looks like your FAQ covers all the Qs I would ask!

Let’s see…
For #3 – I’ve gotten a whole bunch of zippers, luckily I have a wonderful lady who thinks of me when she finds vintage stuff! That’s where most of my vintage stuff comes from!

#3 We like to go thrift shopping all the time. Have found lots of treasures. I like the white trunk we recently found on a trip to GA. It is in great condition and we got it at a great price.

#1 My favorite color combos usually involve brown. i like pink and brown, blue and brown, green and brown, orange and brown, red and brown… you get the picture!

#3 My best thrift find so far has been my dinner room table with 6 chairs, 3 leaves and pads all for $75! We have owned it for 7 years and it works great!

#2. Washing….can I wash with my cloth diapers….or would that just be gross?! :)
#3. I guess my best find was my moses basket. It’s not old or really cool or anything, but I used that thing so much with my last baby and I loved it. It’s pretty and functional!

Oh, wow! #1 is just stunning. I could be very good friends with that pincushion, although the idea of stabbing something so pretty with pins makes me squirm! Anyway :-) My answer is purple… and… well, another shade of purple :-) Yes, I love the colour, and when I see gorgeous fabrics dyed in many shades of it my tummy flips with joy. Yum!

And great work on #2- I own a set of cloth panty liners and they are, without a doubt, the best things ever! xx Sandra

I vote for number 2. The best thing I think would be care, such as washing, where to store used ones until washing, etc. I’m still trying to make the switch myself and that’s my biggest thing I’m trying to get around. Love your blog as well!

Ooh, prize #2 is gorgeous!

Your Etsy FAQ doesn’t really talk about the economic, environmental, health, and comfort benefits of cloth, but the one on your blog is really complete! If you were to add/change anything, I’d recommend editing the “Isn’t that gross?” section to talk about how it’s not gross even if you think diapers are gross; I don’t have kids and don’t want any, so thinking about diapers really doesn’t give me warm and fuzzy feelings about whatever they’re being compared to. Other than that, it’s a really complete FAQ and I look forward to seeing some version of it in your Etsy shop.

Thanks for running this contest!

They are all great! I will probably never get around to using the vintage items, so I will be nice and butt out of that one.

so…

#1 Right now, my fav combos are browns and blues, of all shades. I would love to find hand dyed or batiked in that color combo!

#2 I have wanted to try cloth pads, but I am terrified to. I just don’t know what to expect. Can I wash them with other clothes, or by themselves? Do they stay put? Are they ultra thick, or do they feel bulky? What if you go heavy? How do they work then? These are a few questions that I would ask.

1. i would love to find a batik with several shades of coral, accented with a creamy, but crisper than say an oatmeal, color. but, i am really drawn to teals right now too.

2. i just ordered my first set of cloth pads 2 weeks ago! (just waiting to try them out now ;p) one concern or bit of advice i would like to know is what is done when you need to change the pad while you are away from home… should i bring a ziplock or some sort of waterproof something?! oh maybe like an oilcloth pouch? i would love to win these both for myself but maybe also to convince my sister to try as well. when i told her of my plans to switch, she turned to me with this look on her face and just said “oh my.” to see that face again, i would pay lots of moneys!

3. best vintage find was in this cavernous barn filled to the brim with all sorts of junk that was up for grabs before the owners refinished them. i found an AMAZING framed oval mirror with chippy white paint revealing a faded gold paint underneath for a whopping 5 bucks! *still swooning*

#2 interests me the most…I’ve never used cloth pads before, but you’ve got me thinking :) Your info/FAQ is very thorough. My biggest concern is how to handle soiled cloths until I get home. How do you discretely carry them? I don’t like the idea of a ziploc with dirty pads in my purse :) THanks for the great giveaway.

#2. I have wanted to switch to cloth pads for a while, but I’m worried about leaking, changing them when I’m out and about, and I don’t do laundry daily but I don’t really want a bunch of used pads hanging around in my hamper… How many would you use in a normal med/heavy flow day? Now I’m too curious, and I hope I win because I want to try them… Oh, so gross to share, sorry ladies…

#3 I would go to teh thrift shop every 2nd day. We have one just opposite our supermarket so it is relatively easy. Today I got some lovely vintage Austrian Tirol trim. You never know what you will find! Love the blog. Thanks

The info I’d like to see about cloth menstrual pads is how much water it takes to clean them. Coming from a country in a long-term drought and a city with permanent water restrictions, this would be a consideration for me in switching.

#2 – do I have to do a separate laundry for them? I use cloth diapers on my daughter so am not squeamish with doing dirty laundry but am curious if it is ok to throw them in with the rest of my laundry.

They look great and I hope I win!

#3 – my best thrift store find changes every week;) which is about how often I go, give or take. I also plan my routes around where in the city thrift stores are

Thanks for sharing
xo

I try to get to our local op-shops once a week. I have found all kinds of wonderful things – fabric, patterns, clothes, bags, toys, crockery, buttons… but my favourite is a really old bamboo two tiered table. I just love it!

:)

#1 Blues and greens are my favorite color combo, remind me of the sea

Oh Melissa, how fun is this?! Thanks so much for offering this AWESOME giveaway! :) Oh, BTW this post just had me LOL!!! Okay…on to the questions:

#1–Hmmm…this is difficult as colors I’m attracted to change for me daily. But at this very moment, my dream fabric color combo…I’m such a chick…soft pinks and white. Batiks/hand-dyed–at the moment, I would love shades of plums, mauves, and wines. (BTW, I LOVE that pin cusion! the farbic and sewing are beautiful!)

#2 Since I am a cloth pad user, I think you pretty much cover what I’d need to know…for the new pad use…hmm…maybe a section in the fabric options about “comfort” or feel of different types of fabric against your skin and how they wash. eg., for me, no matter what i do, my velours just seem to hold a slight/light stain whereas my cottons wash out without a problem. also ,maybe add the info on wetbags/transportation, odor/controlling odor (though i really haven’t found that to be a problem), etc. What you’ve put together so far is really great! Woo! Your liners look fab!

#3 Great vintage find…hmmm…it wasn’t actually shopping, but I refound some tea cups that my dad used to use when I was a child stored away in my grandmother’s house. I go “vintage” shopping (but don’t always purchase) about every month and a half or so. I just love to see what’s out there.

Thanks again for this fun giveaway! :)

1. Blues and purples!
2. The cleaning, that is what has been holding me back from going the cloth route so far.
3. A 1950s eyelet dress for $12

Giveaway #1! I’m really loving blue and orange together right now. I’m making a quilt for my son, and that’s my color scheme. Good luck with the baby!

1. Blues and Greens are my favorite colors.
2. Excuse me but I’ll out of the loop. I didn’t even know about cloth pads.
3. My Grandmother called me up and asked if I would like some material from a friend’s stash. Of course I said yes. I received 2 20 galllon totes worth. A lot of knits from the 70’s. I can’t find many patterns for knits.

I would love to enter for #3 because I absolutely love vintage patterns!
My favorite vintage find was a 25 cent wrap skirt pattern I found at the thrift store. So far I have made 7 skirts with that pattern. We have a great thrift store close by and I go twice a month.
Thanks for the great giveaway contest!

#1. I have really been enjoying browns and aquas lately. I also like purple.
#2. I have been reading about these, but haven’t tried using any yet. Honestly it is the cleaning of them that has me concerned. I would love to know more about the details of cleaning. The few sites I have found didn’t have much, I will hunt around your site and see if it is finally able to convince me!
3. I love our local thrift store and go about twice a month. You get soo much and spend so little. I also feel better “trying out” patterns in thrift found sheets, before using the good fabrics.

#1 – Oh, I love batiks… there’s just something organized and chaotic about them at the same time. My favorite parts about them are the gradation between light, medium and dark colors. So can I say that it isn’t a color palette that appeals to me as much as the variations? Although I never pass up beautiful cobalt blue!

#2 – I’ve been meaning to switch over for a long time but just haven’t had the guts to do it. Winning this would definitely be the thing that would put me over the top. I use cloth diapers on my kiddo, so why don’t I use cloth for myself?!?!

#3 – Oh, wow – how fun! We usually go thrifting about once a week, too. By “we” I mean my 2 year old daughter and I. We like rummage sales the best, but definitely have luck sometimes at our local thrift stores.

#1: Right now I am loving red and aqua. What a fun combination!

#1 I love green combos maybe with some browns.
#2 I have not tried, but would like to try cloth. I think because I haven’t tried them I would have a lot of questions.
#3 I thrift almost weekly and while I am waiting to find the coolest fabric or an old quilt my best find are….picnic baskets and an old wine shipping box that I use for board game storage.

#1 — I love the summery-ness of mango and aqua :) Or mustard and grey, I can’t decide which is better!

#1 I would love pinks and reds
#2 I haven’t ever tried them, so I couldn’t say, but I have made the switch to cloth diapers, so I supposed maybe I should give it a go.
#3 I am always looking for vintage finds… the best would probably be inheriting my grandmothers sewing stash and finding fun vintage patterns and notions. Also, antique wooden bobbins… how fun!

#1 I love blues and greens together – my favorite combo – but lately I’ve really been into the turquoise and coral combo… I think it would be interesting to see some batik with the turquoise, and white or black streaks with hints of coral… I don’t know if that would be possible though!

2:
I think it might be useful to mention and stress how easy cloth pads actually are to care for – some of my friends have thought they need to be boiled regularly, Victorian-era style! And perhaps to mention the various places where they can be purchased.

#3. I love to thrift–I head out at least ever week or so. It’s my all time favorite activity. The hunting is copmletely addictive (usually trolling for old fabric but always looking for other stuff I didn’t know I needed until I got there.) Best find: (just last month) a snap-setter, at least 20 years old, still in the plastic packaging.

#2 is my pick. For you FAQ – do they stain? How do they compare to disposable?

#1 – Favorite color combos are too many to mention, but I love greens with purples and a few dashes of red. In the fall I love browns with a little red, purple and green. It depends on the season!
#2 – I use cotton liners and have for years. I just wish someone would figure out how to make liners less bulky in the back. I hate feeling like you can see the pad! I’d love to try your alternate fabrics.

#1: I am really, really loving the combo of buttery yellow and dove grey right now. I also love aqua and red together, which I think would be a better color combo for batiked stuff :-)

#3: I go thrifting at least once a week, sometimes more. I have a few favorite finds: really great vintage sheets that I’ve used to make summer dresses, skirts and shirts, the shirt I’m wearing right now, some fantastic old board games for 25 cents each.

Thanks for the chance to win! Bookgeekgirl at gmail dot com

My luckiest thrift find is a set of vintage glasses I got about 10 years ago. There were 12 and they were really wonderful and I got the whole set for $2. I sold them a few years ago for $75, love it!

I thrift about once a week, usually for fabric and notions.

#1 I love red and brown combos. Even deep purples in there too. There’s something happy and soothing baout that combo.

#1… hot pinks and yellowy green… weird I know but those are my grand daughter’s favorite colors… love your pincushion!!!

What a hoot! I love your blog–it goes everywhere! For #3, my best vintage shopping place is right at home where I have boxes of sewing and crafting stuff from my mom and grandma. Periodically I re-discover some old Workbasket magazine or a doily or some ric rac. They collected and used it all, and I love to embellish pillowcases and quilts with any and all of it. I love following in their footsteps.

At this time, I don’t go thrifting because I’m trying to reduce any and all things in my house–I’m trying to use what I have and what I have inherited! Someday I’ll get through it all and can go shopping again!

For #1 Gosh, I love colour…but I have been into earthy colours lately. But as I type this I picture a sage green bottom, black middle and a creamy taupe top. I wonder if that made sense?

For #2 You really have covered quite a bit as far as an FAQ goes. I think on the lines of making your own you could speak of keeping costs to a bare minimum? I have converted a friend of mine but she is ridiculously low on cash right now so that is a big road block.

#3 I use to live in thrift shops. Right now my favourite vintage piece is actually an old work vest I scammed off of my step dad. It is old and brown and he hates that I wear it. But is is without holes and the zipper is still in working condition so I will wear it until it dies.
Also, I like outfitting my daughter in vintage finds whenever I can. value Village and i get along just peachy.

#1: I love batiks, any color combo! Right now I’m really digging two sort of color themes – one is yellows/oranges/whites, the other is blues/greens with a lot of yellows in the green.

#2: I have been thinking about switching to cloth from commercial stuff, and I actually think liners would be a good ‘intro’ to the whole thing. The only question I have, since I haven’t jumped in yet, is ‘does it REALLY work?’ I would love to get rid of the plastic-ick though.

#1- definitely a mixture of greens

#2- I have used gladrags and found them to be a bit hot and bulky. I would love to find some that felt as comfortable as disposable, because I feel terrible pangs of guilt every time I use a disposable pad!

#3- I love buying all my clothes at thrift stores. I have found some great pieces as well as everyday T’s and jeans, for a fraction of what I’d pay for mass produced Old Navy, etc…

#2 – I was going to say I’d love to get a good explanation of what fabrics would be best to make your own cloth pads, but I see you’ve already provided just that!
I’ve been using cloth pads for years now, and I love them. They feel so much more comfortable.

#3: I love all of my vintage finds but I think my favourite was when I found a 1917 edition of L.M. Montgomery’s “Anne of Avonlea” for $100.00. I absolutely adore it! Thanks for the wonderful giveaway!

1. my favorite color combo would be the aqua and red combo that is sort of trendy right now. i also love different shades of green combined together.

2. my biggest question would be how do you wash them, and do you do it on their own, or combine with clothes?

3. i have yet to find anything fun and vintage… but i only go thrifting once in a blue moon, as my schedule permits.

1) Bright blue with lime.

3) Old cook books, and any kind of kitchen gadget.

#2 – I think the most often asked question I hear is about cleaning or how sanitary they are. I don’t really understand the issue myself since we occasionally bleed/discharge on our underwear and don’t throw them out when we do!

1.My favorite color combo is bright red and bright yellow. It’s garish at times, but when combined with enough white and black, it’s sooo cool.

2. I always have wondered how you take them home to wash them. Do you have to have another bag in your purse for the dirties?

3. I LOVE vintage stuff! I don’t get to go “junque-ing” often since I have 2 little ones under 2. My favorite find is either a wall plaque that says “Support brotherhood: take a protestant to lunch!” (What the heck? Too funny. And, I’m protestant, so I hope someone sees it and offers to buy my lunch in the name of brotherhood.) – or – one time I found a hand-embroidered sari for only $12. IT’s BEAUTIFUL. I just have to think of the project worthy of this find.

Ok, my comment is now a novel.

THANKS!
-Mandi

#1: i like all color. my favorite this year is brown and turquoise.

#2: The cleaning aspect – how to get silk and other natural fibers to wash out the blood.

I probably go thrifting about once a week too. I think that anything sewing related is great!

#1 I would love to see chocolate with aqua!! Beautiful work!

#1 Grey, yellow, and brown

#2 How long does it take for a disposable pad to decompose in the landfill?

Cheers!

For #1: Dream fabric combo would be Blues with some Purples and greens. I really love the cool colors.

For #2: I was looking over your FAQ’s and one thing that isn’t answered are the methods of cleaning. I just kind of thought one would put them in the wash and go, but it sounds like that’s not it at all. So I wonder about that.

For #3: I found some pre-cut squares of vintage fabric for $1-2 per bag. I am excited to soon break the bags open and start laying them out for a quilt. :)

Thanks for the giveaway!

#1 blues cause they are so COOL and I need a pincushion

1) My favorite colors together would be blues, greens, and yellows.

2) I’ve been thinking about using cloth pads, but my nursing experience with sanitary things is screaming ‘NO’. I do not see anything about how to clean and sanitize them thoroughly without ruining them with bleach.

3) My 2 favorite things from the thrift store would have to be a brass owl that I use as an earring holder and a brand new (with tags) designer Alexander McQueen blazer that I bought for $6. (They normally range from $500-$1000)

I would pick #1 – blue and brown. I love the combination. Your pin cushion is lovely!

2) I have wanted to switch to cloth pads for a while but the initial expense is a lot. I would like it if you could explain a little more about making your own. I couldn’t click on a link for that. Thanks!!

I love them all!

For #1: I think my favorited colour combo right now is Aqua and Red. It makes me happy! :)

For #2: I have never used cloth pads/liners before. Are they hard to washa and do they leak?

For #3: I think my favorite find was a vintage chicken scratch apron. It is so BEAUTIFUL! I go thrifting probably every 2 weeks or so! :)

Thanks for the fun giveaways! :)

#2 – Actually I’ve been pondering this recently, though my girl has been out of cloth diapers for a while. Why did I never put cloth diapering and cloth woman supplies together in my mind? I actually don’t have anything to add to your FAQ – I’m sold. Now let me me me be the winner! :)

For #1: I have 2 favourite colour combos right now – red and teal, orange and dark teal. Love them!

For #2: Hmmm – not sure about this one. I wouldn’t try to pressure a friend. If they asked, I would answer. But for an FAQ sort of thing – what are they made out of, absorbency of the pads would be top 2 questions.

For #3: Ahhh – tough one. I found a great letter press drawer that I now hang in my hallway and put little figurines in.

Thanks for the chance to win!

My most priced vintage find is the first edition of When we are six poetry book by AA Milne in mint condition! 6 US$ only! When I was reading through it I imagine the real Christopher Robin is reading it too!

Great giveaway!!
#1 my favourite combo that I am dying(pun intended) to try is blues and purples.

#2 I think would be on the different types of fabric you could use, their effectiveness, comparisons of effectiveness compared to disposables. eg time till changing etc

#3 Buttons!!! I love to thrift old buttons and have been known to buy something just to cut off the buttons! lol

And for an added entry here is a livejournal entry. http://caramia.livejournal.com/140348.html

#1 My favorite would have to be maroon/mauve/and gray. All in the perfect shades of-course.
I like that pin cushion! I have a weakness for Cathedral Window projects. I would love to make a quilt with that pattern but have not made anything bigger than a cushion top so far.

#3 I love vintage hankerchiefs, there are so many unique things to do with them. I also collect vintage buttons.

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to enter your sweet giveaway. I would love to win!

#1 I love berry colours – deep purples and reds

#2 I have been thinking about using them, but my concerns would be absorbability (is that a word?)and washing (with other things? at the end of the week? storing them until then?) and them moving around – am I just being thick here – I’m guessing there are no ‘wings’to um.. stick them down

#2– I’ve been considering making the switch. We already use cloth diapers. I think anything reassuring– info on washing/storing after use before washing/etc would be helpful information.

Q1:deeppink and lolita pink are gr8 with each other

Q2:Maybe you should give a try with tutorials about stitches and such things

Q3:I’ve never found a vintage hting I actually got a ring that my grandma used to have as a gift ..!!

thx for this chance alot a deffintly gr8 giveaway!! ~ <3
blogged here: “http://giveaways-sara.blogspot.com/”

Greens..every color green there is in the entire world! I’ve not worked with batiks but this pin cushion is really, really cute so I see batiks in my future -smile-.

I so want to win #2! I already use the diva cup and cloth liners (lunapads). I only have two cloth liners and would definitely love to have a few more! I think people are intimidated by cloth – having to clean it. It is so not a big deal. But explaining how easy it is to throw in with their towels etc. would be a useful tip!

thanks so much for your generosity!

suserat at yahoo dot com

I would like #2 please. I have never tried cloth pads before and would love to see how they compare (if they even compare) to disposable.

My question would be: Do you have a nifty thing to carry them in when you are out and about? That would be one of my turn-offs with these. I would like to have something made with pul maybe.

1 i would love pink and black maybe with some green oh i love those batik things

your an amazing person love your work

#1 – I have so many I could pick. I think pink, spring green and brown, but I also love green/blue combos.
#2 – Washing and staining would probably be my biggest concerns.
#3 – Before I had kids, I would go thrift store shopping every week. Now I will go to three or four stores in one day every few months. I do miss it so much.

#1 I am really into the brown and pink combo right now…..and by the way….love the little pin cushion!

I would love to win the third prize. I go to fleamarkets regularly and so have a hard time choosing a favorit. Most definately the one time I brought 3 ribbons all more then 20yards long for five euro.

GREAT GIVEAWAY!

1. I LOVE the idea of navy and lime green…but I have to admit I’ve neverdyed before.

and

3. I have a 6 month old don’t get out much but I love vintage lace, sheets, and ric rac!!

#1-I love a blue/gray/brown combo. Does that make sense? I love gray with another color, more vibrant.

#3-During school, I go thrifting weekly. My fav crafting finds have been ironing hams to help with sewing. $1 each, of course. And I’ve found tons of sheets and yarn over the many, many visits, too.

For #1: I love blues and browns together.

For #3: I found pillow cases that had vintage maps of my region on them. I made them into nifty little purses. I go thrifting four or five times a year.

my email is: fharr@umd.edu

#3 (I won’t risk winning all of them, so I’m picking just my favorite :-) I try to go thrifting once a month, but I envy you guys in England and the US, because it is so much more common than here in Spain. There are not many second hand stores, and there are some antiques stores, but they are really pricey and “elitist”, so it’s really hard to find good treats… One of the things I’ll definitely do once I go back to the US or UK is go to a lot of thrift stores!!!

#1 I think a yummy color mix is orange and brown.
#2 I’m new to the whole cloth pad idea so I think are are no questions too dumb or icky. Do they leak? How do you wash them? What do you do when you’re out and about and need to change them? Do they stay put? I could probably come up with so many more!
#3 I go thrifting all the time. I don’t usually get anything exciting though, just clothes for the kids.

#1: I’ve never died fabric before, so don’t know if the colors should be similar, but I love the contrast of red and aqua, especially with some white thrown in.

#2: How do they stay? Do they get stained? What do you do with them if you need to change them while not at home? Why do you think women should use these?

#1 any combo of purples and blues

#2 Info on ease of care, washing, carrying

I love blue/purple color combos. That pin cushion is too cute! It beats my tomato one any day.

1. my favorite color combo right now is orange and purple.
2. I’ve had some cloth pads for about a year and now the snaps are refusing to stay snapped. NOT cool. How often should I expect to replace my cloth pads?
3. I go thrifting about once or twice a month. My favorite thing to find are vintage sheets that I can re purpose as dresses for my twin daughters.

where is my comment?

its lost! ok so again:
on a ofwhite fabric with green yellow and some light gray

and in my blog there are pictures of the last time i went thrifty! i love it!

and i blogged about your giveaway!

and how can i become a follower of your’s? your blog is one of the prettyest i’v ever seen!

What great prizes! Thanks for the chances to win!

1. My fav. color combos right now are purple with teal or other greens and hot pink with orange.
2. I use cloth pads (but not silk! What a great idea), and the biggest selling points when I’m trying to convert friends is the environmental impact and the comfort–so much more comfy than disposables!
3. I love thrift stores and garage sales. Probably my luckiest find was a one-gallon plastic container full to the brim with buttons–for $1!

1) I love purple and red together with maybe a little colbolt blue.

2) I really want to enter this one but can’t think of anything to suggest as I’ve not used them before and your faq seems to cover everything I can think to ask!

Hmmm I pick number 2, because I had never heard of cloth panty liners before. So for an answer to your question: I don’t know what you could put in your FAQ, but I would work on trying to get the word out that these things exist. There are lots of cloth diaper campaigns, but I’ve never heard of a cloth panty liner campaign (not that men would be able to handle it anyway hehehe). It’s a great way to go green!

1. Lavender and Robin’s Egg Blue—The colors of my soon-to-be sewing studio.

2. One word—OVERFLOW.

3. Try to thrift every couple of weeks. Love milk glass.

#1.Growing up my mom’s friend did batiking (Sp?) and my favorites always were dark greens light blues and maybe some yellow or pink.
#3 I try to go to an estate sale or yard sale once a week. last weekend i got some really cool vintage fabric from this house where the lady had literally hundreds of dolls

#2 would be my choice, since I am going to be trying cloth pads in the very near future. Since I have not tried them yet, I have been researching them on different blogs and I will say that I am a little concerned about how to use them during heavy days-and will start out trying them with lighter days first to see how it goes.

Please put me in all 3 draws! They’re great!

#1 I think grey and orange is my fave combo right now–seconded by aqua and red

#2 What about odour? And what about when you’re out–say a public washroom and it leaks or you need to change it?

#3 I love thrifting –I like to blog about it too
my fave find is 1 gallon mason jars from the 1920’s
with glass lids–scrumptious!

I’d love the panty liners – I’m a cloth diapering momma and i’m not sure why cloth is good enough for my kids, but not for me! :) So I’d say Why NOT cloth? would be my question.

And the vintage pack… my most recent vintage item was a perfect twin size set of Popeye sheets! So cute!!

Thank you for a chance to win…Ive never heard of cloth panty liners…I wonder about staining issues…how well do they come clean? Do I feel ‘clean’ wearing them?
thanks for a chance to win.
Jenny

#3, My gram’s old button box is my fave find.
I think I’m going to win!
pjjllive(at)gmail(dot)com

#2 never having used re usable pads how do they stay on? how often would you need to change them?? They are a great idea which i have never thought about!!

xo Steph

loving them all…

Please enter me in the draw, and don’t forget to enter mine. :)

#1 My favorite color combos are blues and purples for a batik I’d love to find those with greens mixed in, all in jewel tones.

#2 I can’t tell from the photo how yours attach. Is it snap or velcro or just friction? Off to dig through your Etsy shop to see if the question is answered there :)

I love them all! I do like the cloth pantyliners the most, so I’ll answer that question:
I think that you probably have all of the information, but the most helpful information is to soak the used pads to help with laundering and to reduce staining. I only have a few stained pads (mine are all light colored) and that is because I did not soak them right away. I would encourage everyone to try cloth because it is so much more comfortable than paper and plastic “down there.” :-)

I just visited your Etsy shop and added you to my favorites. I would love to see some more cloth pads listed esp. overnight ones. I am ISO some really good protecting overnight pads. (This IS weird talking about cloth pads to a stranger… on the internet for everyone to see…)

#1 – I love the blues and greens that make me feel like I’m at the beach!

#2 – I have had some girly parts removed, so no need for this one anymore. It’s a fabulous idea, though!

#3 – I almost never find good stuff thrifting! I wish I could! I did, once, find an old toy spinning wheel that was cute as anything.

Thank you for hosting this – you can see my blog at http://www.clayhillfarm.blogspot.com.

For #1: I love purples. So, I think my ideal would be purples and greens with maybe a hint of orange thrown in as a contrast color

For #2: I havent gotten into cloth pads but have wanted to. Could you add more specifics on how to care for the pads to your faq? Like, specifically, if you’re not going to handwash (which is something I’m not patient enough to do) then what’s the best way to launder them?

For #3: I live in the country, so i’m only able to go thrifting every month or so when we visit the inlaws. That being said, I think my best find was a vintage singer fetherweight sewing machine for $12 that needed only a few minor repairs.

For #1: teal and purple;
For #2: I like store products that have a deodorizer. Do these smell when blood gets on them?

I would love 1 or 2.

For one, oranges and sunset colours – yummy.

For 2, your FAQs look pretty comprehensive to me!

1. I love blues and greens in batiks. They remind me of tropical water. Very calming. Your pincushion is so cute!

#1 My favorite color combination at the moment is aqua and red. I wore my red t-strap shoes with dark aqua socks yesterday, and I just kept staring at my feet.

#2 I think your FAQ is excellent, and it suddenly occurred to me as I was reading it that now I know what to do with all my old tattered cloth diapers. There are nice big chunks that are still good, but not big enough to continue their life as diapers. Pads they will be. Awesome.

I would love to win #2 – it’s something I’ve been thinking of for a while but just haven’t made the switch. my biggest question is whether they start to smell?

I would really love Giveaway No.1. I am new sewer and I do not yet have a pincusion. All of my pins end up in the bottom of whatever container is handy at the time! Blues and Greens are gorgeous in Batiks but my fave fabric colour combo is Browns and Blues…..just perfect:D

x Mel

#2 I wish I had know how easy it is to wash cloth pads, especially liners which barley get dirty. I think it’d be good to mention you don’t need to soak cloth pads and just wash them like regular laundry. I lost a few pads from them growing moldy in soak water I forgot about! Also don’t buy more then one or two of one kind of pad even if you think you’ll love it. It’s nice when even sellers say that. It’s okay to sell 4-5 packs once you know you like the pads but I’ve seen some sellers sell complete beginner sets of 12 pads for $50.

#3 The best thing I found was a bag of 20-30 zippers for $1. I usually go thifting once a month or so, I ‘m not a big shopper but I do love thrift stores.

I have never heard of using cloth panty liners before. I am really curious now! Especially since my periods are so light. I’m going to with #2 as my favorite and I will have to definitely look into this. I might convert myself!
Thanks for the giveaway!

#2 I’d love to go more natural by using these pantyliners! Of course, I wouldn’t be able to use them for a while since I’m currently pregnant but what an awesome thing to look forward to! :)

I would love to win number 2 – my supply of pads is running a bit low as a couple of ones that I have had for years are finally on the way out! Your FAQ are great but here are a few suggestions to add. What about doing a cost comparison to show how much money you could save like they do with cloth nappies? ( I bet it would be fascinating to know how much money the average woman spends on period stuff during her lifetime!)
White vinegar – the best thing in the world! To help keep pads soft without using the dreaded tumble drier -sticking a good glug in the conditioner drawer of your machine really helps.
Explaining that yes you can throw pads in with the normal load might help convince people who don’t like the idea of having a stash of used pads around (it’s different when you have babies – you can just chuck them in the nappy pail!)
Reminding people that if they are unsure about wearing cloth pads out of the house to just wear them at home to begin with – going greener does not have to be all out – every little helps!
Thanks for a great giveaway!

I only recently started thrifting but on one of my first trips I found an little glass bird and a huge bag full of crafting supplies that were on my list to pick up from the craft store! At under $3 for everything – I was hooked!

sign me up for give away number one! I love that pin cushion!

I like Cobalt blue and just about any other color. My more traditional color combo leanings are:

*any pastel with brown

#1 I love the combo of greens and browns – earthly shades, not too dark, not too light.

#2 I have wanted to try cloth pads, but being a “big girl” I’m not sure many are long enough. I also have endo, so sometimes the flow can be a bit much and I worry about leakage.

#3 My best vintage find was a genetics text book from way back when (before Watson & Crick).

#1- I like blues and greens or brown, yellow, and pink.

#2- I am really interested in starting this. What do you do when you are out and need to change a pad? I guess the question is, what do you do with a used pad when you are out?

THank you for including me.

My luckiest vintage find was my mom’s cupboards! She used to sew a lot in the 70s and 80s when I was young, and she has the most amazing stash of fabrics and notions! Lucky me!

For #1: I love combinations with purple. Maybe purple with a bit of dark green?

For #2: My personal sticking point my switch to cloth pads has been laundry. I think it’s really important to provide several suggestion on how to handle the waiting for laundry day. I just give them a quick soak in the sink, snap them shut (with the diry part on the inside) and toss in the laundry with the towels and sheets, which I wash on hot. You just have to remember to unsnap them first!

For #3: I used to thrift once a week, but that has somehow shifted to every other week or so. I miss it! I’ve made some great finds, but my favorite was at a thrift store in Madison, WI. Someone had cleaned out a sewing room, and I got fabric for $.69 a piece, regardless of yardage. Some pieces had as much as 8 yards! Plus, tons of thread, patterns and other notions. I had to really get creative to get all that packed in my luggage to fly back to California, LOL.

I adore all three items so I will answer all the questions:
For #1: I am a huge orange fan right now so all shades of orange would be lovely. I don’t think there is a specific combo that I am looking for that i have been unable to find.

For #2: I think my biggest reason for not switching over to cloth pads would be having to carry around the dirty ones in a bag if I were out and about. How do you handle that? Plus I only do laundry once a week. I don’t think I could let these sit for that long. What do you do?

For #3: I tend to go thrifting once a week also. Usually Fridays. I did go garage sale-ing one Friday and that was nice, but a lot of driving! My favorite finds are vintage pillowcases that are in good shape. I found an unopened case set for .99 that I was pretty excited about.

Thanks for your generosity!

#2 Sometimes it’s hard to find info on what all the layers of pads are. I always want to know what the backing is as well as the insides

#2-You have a lot of good information posted. I like the way you right about it, it’s very relaxed.

I think if you were to elaborate (looks like you’re working on that link) how to take care of them, that would definitely eliminate the fear that most people might have.

After reading all your stuff, I’m very interested in switching.

I love the color combination of denim blue and bright green.

#1 At the moment, I seem to be noticing turqoise, olive & chocolate brown combinations. Yummy.

#2 I have used cloth nappies on my children, but never cloth pads – I think an FAQ needs to include information about washing methods mainly, that would be the thing most people want to know about.

1. Red and Aqua… so lovely:)

2. I would be curious about washing methods and how many you recommend as a start-up package.

#2 ~ You cover so much in your faq page, not sure what to add. Did you cover staining on it? Maybe something on that. Do you think this is something a tween could handle?

#3 I don’t have any great vintage finds, but I go every few weeks. I go in spirts, once a week for awhile & then I will go once a month for awhile. All depends on my money & usually gas prices, lol.

#1: my fave color combo is chocolate brown and lavender. thanks for the generous offerings!

For #3 I go thrifting about once a month. . .that’s all my income will allow. However, my favorite recent find was a vintage pattern for a shirtwaist dress I remember my mother having when I was a kid. But it wasn’t my size :(

For 1: I like the green and blue combos! Orange and yellow would be pretty too!

Oh I’d love #2 the cloth menstrual pads. I’m just getting ready to start using mama cloth.

I guess the #1 info I’d like is just how good is mama cloth in a heavy flow !

Hmmm…favourite colour combo. I loved purple and yellow together when I was growing up. And I still love irises so must still enjoy that combo. LOVE the batik fabric you’ve used.

Oh and I forgot to say that I also LOOOOVE “thrifting”. My best finds were some vintage crockery – two detailed white porcelain salt and pepper shakers, a diamond faceted glass and a gorgeous floral glass platter (the latter two I glued together to make a cake stand). Thanks for this fun giveaway!

For #2
I’m not sure on the answer to this they are SO good, but I think people don’t trust them … maybe by word of mouth? I swear by these pads now – they have made *such* a difference to me!! It’s amazing and I tell all my girlfriends … even if it is not necessarily ‘nice’ conversation! ;)

For #3
I go thrifting at least once a week – I have a few favorite places and go further afield every month … my kids have grown to love it!! My best find recently was an Art Deco tray that I bought for my Mum for mothers day – for $4!!!

#3 I go to garage/estate sales about 3 times a month and just love finding treasures. One of my favorite finds is the huge Bow Maker that was left on “the last day” at a prominent family’s estate sale. It is at least 40 years old and still working great. I even blogged about it because I was so excited with the FIND:

I just love it!

1) Honestly, if it’s batik, I want to see as many bright colors as possible all mixed in. That would be my dream!

2) I haven’t converted yet because of my husband. Find a way to get the men on board (make sure they know that they’ll NEVER have to deal with/see them) and you’ll convert more women too!

3) I found some beyond gorgeous vintage German pillowcases recently, and I turned each one into a skirt. They’re wonderful!

Thanks for the giveaway!

For #1: It would be rather fantastic to find a batik in shades oof green and where the pattern of the batik had the sheep! :)

For #3: My best vintage/thrift find was a wool cardigan that i disassembled back down to the yarn, handdyed, and was able to make two knitted and felted purses for gifts out of.

Thanks!

For #1: A dream fabric color combo would be greens and blues all mingling together like a deep ocean color – yum!

For #2: I’ve been thinking about making cloth-pads and would love to try these – sounds like a great idea! For your FAQ, I’d like to see washing information.

For #3: I don’t get to go thrifting that often (maybe once a month or so). My favorite find has been a cashmere/silk deep violet sweater that I thrifted the yarn from. It was an XXL, so that’s a lot of gorgeous yarn!

What a fun way to do the giveaway.

1: For the pincushion (which is absolutely adorable): I would love, love, love some purple/turquiose batik. My favorites!

2: For the pantyliners: I haven’t had the chance to try these yet, but am looking forward to it. I would definitely say word of mouth.

3: I go “thrifting” every single chance I get – at least weekly. Favorite find was a whole trunk of vintage fabrics that were extremely well cared for.

Thank you for entering me in your drawings.

1- I love bright color combos. I think a fun one would be pink/orange/yellow.

2- I might be dumb, but I couldn’t find the link to the care for the pads. I would LOVE to see a good how-to like your other faq pages on that.

3- I troll one of the “local” online thriftstore-like-places *L* My best finds so far have been my sewing machines!
