Ginger ale, ankles, angst and hexagons
Tags: In real life...
It may look like I’m drinking beer, but it’s really ginger ale. My husband brews this from scratch (literally — just ginger and sugar-water) under the sink in our kitchen and I think it is sooooo good and satisfying! Last year he wrote a blog post about it that explains his method. It’s pretty easy to do, if you’re so inclined. Even though I’m not a drinker (eh hem, anymore), I still really have a love of beer, frankly. Unfortunately I’m also knocked up and I’m just not one of those people who can drink ah-beer and not be guilt-ridden (even though I hear it’s very common in Europe for pregnant women to drink wine and beer). STILL, I digress. Ginger Beer — with it’s undetectable alcohol content — and kombucha both satisfy since I can’t drink beer for awhile.
I would love to share our fermented beverages with the world, but I’m still checking out the rules about those things since they’re technically food stuffs. If you’re interested in kombucha until then, I can recommend a really great lady who can hook you up with a mother. And of course, anyone can make ginger ale if they can get a few Grolsch bottles and some ginger root!

I started sewing this morning and aside from a few hours spent at the library and having lunch with hubby, stayed busy all day on a huge order of pads. I had every intention of taking very impressive WIP photos, but I kept on sewing till about 8 p.m. when I realized I was totally out of white thread! How does this happen?
It’s kind of a big deal because I never get to have all-day crafting marathons anymore. Part of it is that I’m usually in school (did I mention this week is spring break? Yeah!) and busy with my writing classes. Part of it is Sullivan. Yesterday when we were walking in the alley I had to stop and stoop down to snap a photo of a plastic flower that was just lying in a pile of dead leaves. When I looked up, Sullivan was bounding toward the road and when I took off after him, I rolled my ankle. It was the kind of pain that shot right to my stomach and made me feel like I was going to throw up! I had to hobble around the rest of the day and I didn’t get any crafting done. So sewing today was totally satisfying!
I’m working on some informational pages about the kinds of cloth menstrual pads I make. I am doing some business-y overhalls and I think it would be good for me to sit down and take inventory of the things I make as well. I’m hoping to update the shop again this weekend. Depending on whether or not the rest of the week brings more white thread or twisted ankles…
I want to start a quilt (because apparently that’s the thing to do now) and I think I’m settled on a hexagon quilt. I found this great blog post with some links to start (her blog header is also hypnotic) and I’m tossing around Everything But the Kitchen Sink (since I seem to be mildly obsessed with feed sack repros [since I can't afford actual feed sacks]). Any other suggestions? I’m thinking that small patterns would look best, right?
So that’s my week! Oh and of course, spend as much time as I can out in the sunshine with my doggie and my kiddo.
