Crafts and days in which I don’t excell

Monday through Wednesday is my super busy time. I don’t usually get to see my husband at all except when we’re sleeping those days. All of my classes are packed into that small time period and Sullivan is… well, extra Sullivan-y.

Tuesday nights I have ceramics class. I took this class because I had romantic notions about making beautiful dinnerware on the pottery wheel. Alas, no. Our instructor won’t teach us anything about the wheel until we “earn our stripes” by making coil pots. Pinch pots. Like those things you made when you were five with rolls of play-dough. I’m five or six weeks into class now and this is as far as my damn pot has gotten:

Apologies for the crappy camera phone picture. I feel really inadequate when I’m sitting in there rolling long logs of clay. The instructor insists I’m doing it right, but I have to say, it’s not nearly as satisfying as metalsmithing, sewing, cooking or any of the other crafts I’ve enjoyed learning lately.

Oh and the Coke bottle is just there for scale. I would NEVER drink Coca Cola while pregnant! High fructose corn syrup?!?! Me?!? Actually, I really enjoy one now and then since we don’t ever have soda in the house. When my poetry prof saw me drinking a Coke one night she was blown away and said she’s never seen me consume junk food. “Usually you’re like, chewing on herbs and stuff.” Those were her exact words. Hmm…

We’ve had the plague running through our little family all week/end/beginning though and my babysitter was hit so I didn’t get to my classes today. Instead I put together a bunch of fun packages that I’m going to list on etsy tomorrow — when I can take pictures. Sullivan was being very bratty because we have been cooped up sick inside — and I have to admit, there were lots of tears today — on my part. I really need to come to grips with the fact that I can’t do it all. That my house will never be clean. That I will never get ahead of my looooong list of things to do.

I’ll leave you with the Daily Frank. Frank is my cat. Every day I take a picture of him. This isn’t too exciting because Frank isn’t particularly interesting for any one reason. He does all kinds of cat things — like sitting around all day. He doesn’t care for us much at all — except when he’s hungry. He tolerates the paparazzi. This is the face he makes when he wants me to go away:

You can add me on flickr if you want to keep up with my Daily Frank. I post lots of crafty pictures there too.

Tomorrow I have an OB appointment and I’m going to make Kombucha and update etsy, of course. I have a lot more to say, but if I stay awake any longer, I will turn into a pumpkin!
